One of Ireland's most popular TV chefs, Jenny Bristow, has just returned from Washington DC, where she hosted the Smithsonian Institute's programme to promote the concept of Irish food and way of life.

Jenny gave a talk and presentation on the best of home grown food and brought the US audience up to date on Northern Ireland's cuisine and how today it is cooked with a healthier twist.

The Smithsonian Institute known throughout the world, for it excellence, is an organisation founded over 155 years ago, and is committed to enlarging America's shared understanding of their national identity by providing experiences that connect them to their history and heritage as Americans.

Jenny said

"I am delighted to have hosted this event Traditional Irish Cooking with a Modern Day Twist".

I have been working closely on the development of menus with ideas taken from my books in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institute.

The event incorporated the hosting of a Gala dinner, to invited guests who enjoyed the best of our home cuisine with many of our foods including cheeses from Fivemiletown and Braised Lamb and Homemade relish.

Jenny knows only too well the extent to which the tradition of baking links both sides of the Atlantic, as she has been exploring Irish American recipes for her forthcoming UTV series "Jenny Bristow a Taste of the USA" filmed on location in New England which is due to air next year.

Jenny's new book, Jenny Bristow USA, will be published in 2007
