Jenny Bristow USA

New England in the Fall, seasons of mist, and mellow fruitfulness is for me the true backdrop for my new cookery series Jenny Bristow USA. A lifestyle, culture and food that marries so well with life at home in Ireland. The history, richness, culture and in particular occasions that reflect the good times of life are celebrated with food. This was a chance to experience the culinary delights of the USA where I found a great passion for food and a tradition of home baking and cooking just like ourselves.

Jenny Bristow USA

The array of produce from pumpkin and squash in such a variety of colours and shapes be it in the making of a pumpkin pie or roasted squash used in a risotto to blueberries in cheesecake or trifle, combined with a delightful buttermilk sponge. Cranberries used in a no-cook relish in sauces and dessert it’s a must for you to try my apple pandowdy and cranberry pear and peacan pie all served up with egg nog or honeyed mascarpane. The special times of life are a great opportunity to celebrate with food. Thanksgiving and the story of how the Pilgrim Fathers landed at new Plymouth and after the rain comes Thanksgiving Day was established in the calendar.

USA FlagIn this programme you will find new inspiration for our Christmas dinner such as a special pudding packed with cranberries, blueberries and a hint of bourbon, great new ideas to serve with turkey from cornmeal stuffing to succotash – new ideas for vegetables. There are great ideas for barbecues, breakfasts, Halloween parties and lots more.

My enthusiasm for this wonderful collection of recipes and events is blended carefully with the best of our good local produce given a healthier twist, a hint of convenience and best of all an opportunity to share with you my passion of good food, with those whom we love and care for most through the special role that food plays in all our lives. Enjoy.

Jenny Bristow and British Heart Foundation Northern Ireland - Fundraising from the Heart

Jenny and Louise with Churn

Jenny has joined forces with Louise Lester from LL Crafts in Ballymena to raise vital funds for British Heart Foundation (BHF) Northern Ireland in order to provide BHF Heart Nurses throughout the country. On Monday 8th October, Jenny launched a unique fundraising event that will help improve the lives of people living with heart disease.

An exclusive milk churn, designed and hand-crafted by Louise and autographed by Jenny, is up for grabs in a unique prize draw. All you have to do is write your contact details into a booklet, for an optional suggested donation of £1, and you will be entered into the competition. The booklets are available in shops throughout Northern Ireland and you will see posters in store windows. The draw closes on Friday 7th December 2007 so please enter today. There is only one opportunity to win this future collector's item!

The money raised will go towards providing a Heart Failure Nurse at Altnagelvin Hospital, Londonderry and a Genetic Heart Nurse based in Belfast, who covers the whole of Northern Ireland.

Jenny said

"BHF Northern Ireland urgently needs your help to raise money to provide vital Heart Nurses. More people with frightening and debilitating heart problems, such as heart failure and genetic heart disease, need the care and support of BHF Heart Nurses. Please support this appeal today - together we can beat heart disease!"

Louise Lester explained why she is keen to support the BHF Northern Ireland Heart Nurse Appeal:

"Unfortunately my dad has heart disease and he is only 58. He has suffered heart attacks in the past and had by-pass surgery 20 years ago. He took ill again three years ago and now his kidneys are affected. Life has changed dramatically. His poor health affects him and the whole family, daily. For example, holidays have become short trips with the help of a mobility scooter.

We want to raise money to help treat and care for people with heart disease today and ensure future generations have the best treatment. We know that new treatments are always becoming available and we so want to contribute to this process, because one of them could very well help my dad as he is still a young man."

British Heart Foundation logo Coronary heart disease remains Northern Ireland's single biggest killer with almost 3000 deaths a year. While premature death rates from heart disease in Northern Ireland have halved in the last decade, this means that many thousands of people are now living with sometimes debilitating and frightening conditions.

To find out more about the BHF Northern Ireland Heart Nurse Appeal, and to start fundraising today, please contact Gail McKee on 028 9268 3377, email mckeeg@bhf.org.uk or write to PO Box 46, Downpatrick, BT30 0AE.
